International Roaming
What is Roaming?
Roaming is the ability to take your mobile service overseas to make and receive calls and SMS.
Domestic mobile networks have bilateral agreements with
international mobile networks to enable their customers to use those
networks when they travel overseas to make and receive calls using their
Australian SIM card.
Charges for calls you make
Charges for calls you make from overseas are charged at the rate
of the overseas network operator you are using plus any surcharges. This
also applies to SMSs made while roaming although not all
international networks support roaming SMS.
We do not publish rates for international
roaming on our website since the rates
fluctuate depending on which overseas network is used and the exchange rate vs the Australian
dollar at the time.
Charges for calls you receive
Callers from Australia simply dial your mobile number as if you
were in Australia. Callers from the country you are in (or any other
country except Australia) must call as if they are making an international call to Australia.
When you receive a call from Australia the person calling you pays
for a call to your mobile number as if it was in Australia (this is
only fair as the caller may have no idea that you're overseas).
You pay for the call to be re-directed to the country you're in
plus any applicable surcharges. In some countries you may also be
charged by the overseas network to accept the incoming call.
No GST on roaming calls
International roaming calls can be expensive however, because they are
made & received overseas, there is no
GST applied to them.
Billing
There are no special billing arrangements and no additional
connection or monthly access fees for international roaming. Charges are
billed directly to the customers account in Australian dollars.
The length of your trip, the time it takes the overseas networks
to process billing information to us and the time the mobile bill is
issued will determine when the charges appear on the customers' account.
This may be up to 3 months after they return from overseas.
This service is available in more than 120
countries.
Your mobile number stays the same so that you know you can be
contacted. Charges are billed back to the account in Australian dollars.
SMS
and voice messages are products compatible roaming
facility.
PLEASE NOTE when Roaming internationally, the roaming service is also charged for calls received. These charges differ from country to country as it is dependent on the carrier who's network you are roaming on.It's a good idea to check with your account manager prior to departure to get an indication on these charges. Please be aware that these charges are not 'set in concrete' and can change at the discretion of the overseas carrier.

How is roaming charged?
It is important to note that not all charges are standard across carriers within a country and you should equip yourself with as much information about the area you are going to, as possible. Charges are at an approximate rates as Roaming charges as set by the International carrier and are subject to change. Please note that some carriers may charge for incoming calls. An incoming call maybe charged according to where the call originated from, or charged at a flat rate. All charges are stated in $AUD per minute.

What are the voicemail costs when roaming?
If a received call is diverted to VoiceMail because you do not answer or because your phone is busy, you will also be charged the international call rate for the applicable zone to divert the caller back to your VoiceMail box in Australia. These charges may be minimised by setting an "unconditional" diversion to VoiceMail, so that all incoming calls are sent directly to your VoiceMail rather than to your overseas destination. What costs are associated when calls are diverted to voicemail when roaming?
The costs associated are as follows:
- Normal diversion cost for message to be left.
- International calling rate set by the overseas network for retrieving the message.
- Please check the Roaming guide for country costs.
