Tethering

If you have a smartphone, Telcotalk have a range of plans where we can enable Tethering.

For those of you who dont know yet, Tethering allows you to use your smartphone as a wireless modem! this means you can use the data allowance on your mobile phone plan to connect to the net wirelessly with you laptop or tablet.

So get rid of the wireless dongles you have been paying for and get a smarter mobile plan and tether!

Also for those of you who are thinking of investing in a tablet save yourself some money and don't bother with the more expensive 3G version, you have a 3G connection on your mobile you can use.

So here's what you need to do, first contact us and ask us to enable tethering for your device then....

if its an Iphone you have then follow these steps-

settings>

general>

network>

personal hotspot> turn ON

now you have a few options for connection, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB,

personally for security purposes where available I would choose USB but obviously if you are tethering to an Ipad then you wont have this option, so go for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Then on your laptop or tablet enter the network options tab and select your Iphone, and you are now connected!

The wide range of Android handsets mean setup will vary but look for your personal hotspot in your networks tab and you should be able to activate it just as easily as the Iphone setup. If you get lost or confused just drop us a line on 1300 TELCOTALK (835268) and we will be happy to talk you through it.

This is a fantastic feature for you to use on the move wherever you need to get connected!

A quick word of warning before you go wild! -ensure you have a good data allowance before tethering as browsing on your laptop and tablet will use up more data than your Smartphone.

Remember you have to call to have the feature enabled as generally mobile plans won't automatically feature tethering as standard.
